SUN4PEOPLE addresses those situations in which the use of solar energy could solve local communities’ needs and make a difference in their lives. We started SUN4PEOPLE because we strongly believe that we can improve living standards of the world’s poorest people by using solar energy..
Our first project, Sun4Water™, started with the idea that every human being has a right to drink clean water. Although modern technologies are able to treat water, the World Health Organization nevertheless estimates that 768 million people lack access to improved water sources*. As of 2006, more than 1 billion people did not have access to safe drinking water. 88% of diarrhea cases – responsible for 3 million deaths every year – are attributable to unsafe water supplies and poor/inadequate sanitation and hygiene systems. Diseases resulting from contaminated water comprise 80% of the total disease burden. It is estimated that up to half of all hospital beds in the world are occupied by victims of water contamination.
Our mission is to supply affordable clean water and some degree of electricity in a world where an estimated billion people lacks access to acceptable drinking water sources and 1.5 billion to electricity. Everyone today should have access to drinking water, and we are proud to say that we have found an affordable system to deliver it.
SUN4PEOPLE is an Italian-based NGO (ONLUS), headquartered in Catania. We work with partners from different part of the country. We collaborate with socially aware businesses that are invested in the communities that surround them, as we all share a fundamental belief in making the world a better place.

Sun4Water and its project draw on the experience of top managers in multinational and international companies and organizations (STMicroelectronics, IBM, Flextronics, UBIBanca), former deans and presidents of some of the most prestigious international universities (ETH Zurich, Stanford), who will serve on the advisory board.

3Sun sponsored the Sun4Water initiative under its CSR projects by performing the initial research, and involving some of its employees to this project. 3Sun is a JV between Enel, Sharp and STMicroelectronics to manufacture thin film photovoltaic panels in Catania, created in July 2011. It is the biggest Italian solar panel manufacturer, and one of the biggest in Europe. Enel Green Power is one of the world leading players in renewable energies, Sharp has been a leader in photovoltaic technology for many years, and STMicroelectronics is one of the major semiconductor producer in the world.
Fleming Research was founded in by Dr. Alberto Stangalini and Dr. Carlo Roccio, aiming at achieving a medical diagnostic lab and delivering a high quality service in the shortest time possible. The company expanded during the following years and became a main partner of public and private health service providers.The development of medical analysis with molecular biology methods followed the synergies between Clonit S.r.l., which is part of the Fleming Research Group, and Fleming Research S.r.l. Clonit S.r.l. was one of the first Italian companies operating in the field of biotechnology. Since from the beginning the company has worked to develop innovative and reliable analytical methods in the field of in vitro diagnostics using molecular biology techniques. The systems are useful for human diagnostic with particular attention to the detection of viral, bacteria and protozoa infections, genetic mutations and oncological diseases.
SparkleClean Tech was founded in Silicon Valley by a collaboration of Investors from the USA, India and Singapore. The company’s purpose continues to be “Clean Water Saves Lives”. Currently based in Mumbai, it is among the largest water filtration companies in India. SparkleClean Tech has successfully developed patented technological innovations that produce drinking water that meet or exceed the World Health Organization (WHO) standards and non-drinking water that easily satisfies pertinent government water standards.
